Grass Lake Educational Foundation
The Grass Lake Educational Foundation is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) educational resource founded in 1985. It is separate from the Grass Lake Community Schools and the Grass Lake Board of Education. The GLEF exists to provide additional sources of support for the students and staff of Grass Lake Community Schools. The GLEF Board meets monthly to discuss fundraising opportunities, current business, and to award mini-grants to staff members. Foundation Announcements
GLEF Is Supporting Our Grass Lake Students
Since the year 2009, the GLEF has awarded $53,779.76 for classroom objectives for our students through mini teacher grants. In year 2012, the GLEF began awarding scholarships to Grass Lake High School graduating seniors. Since beginning this effort, $12,500 has been provided to graduates of Grass Lake High School pursuing degrees.
2017 "On Tap & Uncorked" A Huge Success
Thank you to everyone who came out to the 2nd Annual "On Tap and Uncorked" benefit for the Grass Lake Educational Foundation. And also to our many sponsors and donors who made the event possible. Your attendance and generosity is appreciated and supports the Foundation's mission to continue to fund Grass Lake Community Schools classroom needs for our students, as well as funding scholarships for our graduating seniors. 2016-2017 GLEF Grant Awards
Danielle MacFarlan Voted On to the GLEF Board of Directors
The Grass Lake Educational Foundation's Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Grass Lake resident Danielle MacFarlan has become the organization's newest Board member. Danielle has a property/casualty insurance license and is bank certified, and is employed by the Susan Cobb-Starrett Insurance Agency, Inc. - State Farm Insurance as their office manager and motivation coach. The Board appreciates Ms. MacFarlan's volunteerism toward this organization and looks forward to gaining her insights.

Craig Vitale Joins GLEF Board of Directors
The Grass Lake Educational Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Grass Lake parent Craig Vitale has joined the GLEF Board of Directors as a voting member. Craig was elected to the Board by a unanimous vote at the Board's meeting on Wednesday, August 31. Craig and his wife Jennifer have three children in the Grass Lake School District and he is a teacher in the Columbia Central School District. The GLEF Board appreciates Craig's volunteerism toward helping the Foundation provide funding for our school district's students.
Inaugural "Tapped and Uncorked" Event a Success
On Friday, May 20, the Educational Foundation Board sponsored its inaugural "Tapped and Uncorked" fundraiser at the Whistlestop Depot. It was a wonderful social event that successfully raised money for our Grass Lake students.

Special thanks to Tom Nolte for allowing us to use the Depot building, to Chelsea Alehouse Brewery (, Sandhill Crane Vineyards (, the staff of Susan Cobb-Starrett State Farm Insurance (, and Joe DeBoe ( for providing the beverages, food, and music for the event.

And thank you to everyone who attended this event. It was great seeing you. We look forward to doing it again.

George McKenzie Named to GLEF Board
The Grass Lake Educational Foundation is proud to announce that Mr. George McKenzie has been voted onto the GLEF Board of Directors by a unanimous vote of the Board at their regular meeting on Thursday, May 19. Mr. McKenzie is an engineer with Consumers Energy in Jackson. The Board is pleased to acquire Mr. McKenzie's input as it moves forward to support our students and teachers.

Heidi McKenzie Elected to GLEF Board of Directors
At the Grass Lake Educational Foundation Board's September 10 meeting Grass Lake community member and parent Heidi McKenzie was unanimously elected to become a member of the GLEF Board of Directors. Heidi brings foundation knowledge with her, along with energy and pragmatic thinking. We welcome Heidi to the Board and thank her for her service.

Alumni and Public Invited to Make Donations to the Educational Foundation
The Grass Lake Educational Foundation is established to provide supplemental funding to Grass Lake educational programs that will enhance the academic achievement of our students. Thousands of dollars from contributors are expended yearly toward this mission. The Grass Lake Educational Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization and, as such, donations qualify as charitable contributions on both the Michigan and Federal income tax returns. Checks should be made payable to the Grass Lake Educational Foundation and mailed to

Partner with the Educational Foundation in its Business Benefactor Program
Businesses are invited to partner with the Educational Foundation by becoming a business benefactor. Having an ongoing donation series with the Foundation promotes your business through our advertising processes, while supporting the needs of Grass Lake students. In the past these series have been in the form of percentages of sales during a specific day every month, or a percentage of sales during a specific event.
